During this time we may hear a lot about self care. Self care is being talked about in the media and in social media. You may ask yourself what exactly is it and how do I achieve it.
A great example of self care is when you are traveling on an airplane. While the airline stewardess goes through the safety evacuations, they will tell you if in an emergency you are to place your own mask on first before you go to assist another family member who may be traveling with you (that includes a child).
Many may find themselves responsible for taking care of other family members, extended family, and/or children. In the hustle and bustle of life, it is easy to forget to take care of yourself.
When you take care of your self you are providing the best version of yourself for you and those who are around you.
Here are some quick tips to jump start a healthy self care routine:
- Get a great night of sleep: most studies say you need an average of 7-8 hours of sleep each night
- Schedule at least 30-45 minutes of relaxation time (read a book, take a hot bubble bath, etc.)
- Eat a healthy well balanced meal for maximum energy
- Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated: the human body is at least 70% water. Drink up to replenish.
- Add Body Movement throughout your day (walk, run, garden, or dance). A body in motion is a healthy body!
- Have healthy relationships in your life and surround yourself with positive people
- Have Fun! (add laughter throughout your day: watch a comedy, play jokes on your friends or loved ones, have good clean fun)
